hmm, I am not sure. Besides certain series, I have never thought of anime characters looking like anyone because of the disproportionate eyes, mouths, and oftentimes non-existent noses. I post anime gifs from websites, but I haven't actually watched an entire show in years, but I don't think the style has changed much.

most probably have no idea that there is such a thing as a "weeaboo," but a good number of the Japanese I know are not overly fond of them or understand the obsessive foreign interest in Japanese comics and cartoons.
