When I was six years old, I accidentally dropped my GameBoy Color onto a gravel driveway, shattering the screen. As compensation from my parents, they bought me a brand new GameBoy Advance, along with a new game they thought I might like - Pokemon Sapphire Version. I remember the panic I felt when I saw Professor Birch being attacked by a Poochyena - and rushed as fast as I could to save him.
When I pulled up the starter selection screen on

Sapphire, I didn't care that there were three Poke Balls. All I cared about was saving Prof. Birch. So, I grabbed the Poke Ball that I saw first - which happened to be a Torchic.
That same Torchic is now a Lvl. 100 Blaziken - his name is Birdi - and he has traveled to every Pokemon game I have ever owned before finally residing on my White 2 game. He's been with me through thick and thin, and my trusty partner for countless battles.
And when Gen VI comes around, you can bet that Birdi will be there, ready to battle alongside me once again.
