Oops! Ize in BIG trubble. My kitteh seed the messij I left abowt Kissy, an she got upseted becuz ob corse she is my fave kitteh! I has to clarify wif a quikness dat kissy is my fave ob YUR kittehs, not all kittehs!
I don't think it will come to that (I hope), not on purpose anyway. My concern is that if the new owners try to make a bunch of changes, or are the target of sabotage by trollers during changes, the site might crash by accident. BUT... seeing as how the original ownership and then their successors monkeyed around with it so often without it crashing, maybe I don't know what the heck I'm talking about. And remember, according to the article about the sale, the new owners - whoever they are - increased their web traffic by 200% when they bought ICHC. Our traffic was 13M views. When added to what they had, theirs will now be 20M. Those are good odds that they'll continue to do *something* with the site. With how dedicated all we cheezpeeps are, they'd be idiots to shut us out, especially without access to stored LOLs, because we would all make a massive hue and cry at other sites. The way I'm looking at it is that I'm keeping my eyes open and being pro-active about saving my most favorite LOLs (both that I and others made) to my hard drive. It's sort of like buying insurance - you hope you never need it but, if you do, you're damn glad you spent the money.
Ohai! I'm glad you were able to find cua's LOL. The comments I mentioned weren't under his LOL, they were under the article you can't get to. :( ++ ICHC doesn't make money off our LOLs. Like any commercial site, it makes money by selling advertising space. Advertisers pay them to place an ad on the site. People coming to the site see the ads and that, supposedly, increases how many people buy the advertised products. If too many visitors to the site use ad-blockers, advertisers are less likely to want to pay fro ad space. However, if the site chooses to do business with advertisers who have poorly computer coded ads, ones that allow in viruses and malware, then visitors will either use ad-blocker or simply not come to the site at all. I'm guessing that advertisers with "diseased" ads don't make as many demands on the site, while those with well coded ads have more expectations. Otherwise, it would make no sense for the site to accept crappy ads. I don't know a ton about it, but it may be that ICHC has also done a poor job of incorporating the ads (and their coding) into ICHC's coding. All the counterproductive codes confuse your (and others') computers so much that trying to load the site makes it crash, even if no malware gets into your computer. That ads to a vicious cycle of a poor site not being able to attract high quality advertisers, the site getting worse, and having even worse advertisers be the only ones interested. ++ Things have gotten so bad - so many fewer visitors and advertisers - that the current staff is something like 15, where it had been as high as 60. This is one reason why AnCaps has gone to all re-runs, including from non-animal sites. There is simply no way a site struggling so much financially will ever let visitors have any say in how things are run. Not that they would anyway, but a strong site might be more inclined to listen to visitor complaints. All we can do is hang on tight and hope the buyers are actually interested in having a quality site and, in the meantime, start saving to our hard drives the LOLs we love the most. Who knows if the new guys would bother to fix it if the entire site were to crash. That would be like a library burning down. All the books... gone. ++ Thanks for passing on my message to Suzy's_Mom and for giving me her message. I'll be getting to that FR soon. (Hugs)
