Another response: We've had experiences with livestock. Diet and exercise will be key. I would try to avoid mineral oil as it can lead to a laxative dependency, but can be a tool in the box. Enemas are another not to be abused. Natural fibers will help. Lots of hydration.
So far, three doggie folk replied and the consensus is about what I said: Avoid kibble; stool softener; no preservatives or food coloring (they challenge the system). " I think mineral oil is what we call medicinal paraffin oil in the UK; so yes, that would be fine, But I would also recommend NOT feeding kibble again to play safe, far better either sticking to canned food or swapping to raw meat -without too much bone content."
You are very welcome for the card. You and C.B. are in my prayers. The little fellow has been through a lot, I pray that this surgery be successful and for you to have some rest and peace of mind. More hugs, Millie
Adding that I mislike mineral oil and kibble. Kibble tends to be mostly fillers and hard on digestion. Anything with preservatives and food coloring adds unnecessary waste which he doesn't need to deal with. Posted to my friends who way more goggie experience than I.
Thank you for your sweet comment. I just read about C.B.--haven't been on here much and had no idea. I do hope your vet can help you come up with a workable solution. I'm sorry he or she can't do the surgery but hope can help you make a decision. Have you checked the success rate of such surgery online? That could help with your decision. Many beams that this will all work out with a fix for C.B. I know decisions like this are extremely difficult to make. Hugs, Brenda
